Provide technical support for the Neutron Scattering Division (NSD) sample management and user laboratories. Order, receive, store, inventory, track, ship, and categorize waste/recyclables. Work within ORNL and NScD databases/systems to ensure compliance and tracking of laboratory activities. Perform basic laboratory housekeeping, ordering, and organization. Interact constantly with internal and external users of the laboratories. Provide training, service, and assistance to users with diverse backgrounds. Maintain strong commitment to customer service. Write and implement Hazard Analyses. Read and understand Safety Data Sheets. Identify and appropriately work with a variety of chemical and equipment hazards.

Associates degree in a scientific or technical discipline and a minimum of one year of experience. Competent user of various types of software such as office automation, databases, and web applications. Familiarity with basic chemistry. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required. Experience with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is preferred. Previous experience working with radiological samples and controls. History of working within a QMS, ISO, or GMP environment. Experience supporting technical staff, including scientists. Experience handling, tracking, and shipping samples. Experience working with Department of Transportation regulations. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory. Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs.
