About the role
Barr is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design business unit, working with multidisciplinary project teams to serve industrial clients in the power generation, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors. You will use your expertise to develop and review engineering calculations, system specifications, and construction drawings; select equipment and components; and guide project execution from concept to bid packages. You will contribute to technical reports, cost estimates, proposals, and client-facing documentation that support critical infrastructure investments. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills. a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan, or Duluth, Minnesota, offices. up to 15% domestic fieldwork, with an average of one day every two weeks during projects to verify dimensions and project progress.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university.
- 5+ years or relevant experience.
- Willingness and ability to regularly travel.
- familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office software, and computer simulation modeling.
- possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Helpful additional experience (not required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification strongly preferred or ability to obtain.
