Description

  • Ensuring state highways are safe and drivable
  • Performing roadway maintenance activities
  • Performing roadside activities
  • Installing and replacing signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings
  • Maintaining and repairing guardrail systems
  • Performing structure maintenance and repair activities
  • Performing winter maintenance
  • Maintaining and repairing department facilities and properties
  • Performing preventative maintenance and equipment repair
  • Responding to emergencies and incidents
  • Providing on-the-job training and work direction
  • Providing temporary traffic control through work zones and emergency sites
  • Maintaining documentation
  • Operating a variety of equipment and tools
  • Promoting a safe work environment
  • Participating in public safety awareness activities

Job Requirements

  • Experience in heavy equipment/farming/ranching equipment operation or heavy construction preferred
  • Knowledge of road maintenance methods, materials, and techniques
  • Basic math and computer operation skills
  • Skill in using and maintaining hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair equipment and attachments
  • Ability to drive and operate a manual transmission
  • Ethical conduct and customer service skills
  • Physical ability to lift, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL)
  • Willingness to report to work for inclement weather conditions and highway emergencies
