About the role

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity Shape the future of Statistics education and research in Aotearoa New Zealand Te Kura Tatauranga | Statistics  and Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora | Biological Sciences are seeking an early-career academic to join us as a jointly appointed Lecturer on a permanent contract. This is an exciting opportunity to build your academic career in a high-performing, globally recognised department known for excellence in both teaching and research. As a Lecturer, you will play a key role across teaching, research, and service. You’ll contribute to a collaborative academic environment while developing your own research profile and supporting student success at all levels. This is a full-time (40 hrs per week) permanent role.

What you'll bring

  • We’re looking for emerging academics who are passionate about teaching and research, and ready to take the next step in their academic career.
  • PhD in Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field
  • An interest in biological data
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in high-quality journals
  • Ability to work independently across the full research and publication process
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Experience lecturing in Statistics or Data Science
  • Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g. student feedback, peer review, awards)
  • Experience supervising or co-supervising postgraduate research
  • Ability to secure or show potential for research funding
  • Experience contributing to academic service and administration
  • We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to advanced Applied Statistics teaching, including areas such as deep learning, large language models, experimental design, and time series, and who have an interest in biological data.
