About the role
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the NYISO Day-Ahead Market. This individual is expected to gain working knowledge of the New York State high voltage transmission system and the market analysis software to support the NYISO markets and security functions. The Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer provides support in the development of software and techniques to assist in analyzing market functions.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering with coursework in power systems (generation and transmission equipment, concepts and principles), mathematical modeling of power system components required.
- No prior industry related or professional experience required
- however, six months of experience from a power related internship
- This position will be filled at the appropriate level (Associate – Senior) based upon relative experience and qualifications.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, Market Participants and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
