About the role

AHRC New York City is seeking a Full-time Youth Workforce Development Academic Instructor for their Advance & Earn program . The Advance & Earn Academic Instructor supports young adults ages 17–24 by providing engaging, student-centered instruction in preparation for the GED exam leading to attainment of a High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. The instructor delivers contextualized academic lessons in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies, with a focus on helping participants develop both the academic skills and confidence necessary to succeed. This role plays a key part in supporting young people who are out of school and out of work to advance toward meaningful educational and career pathways. What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Counseling, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching or tutoring youth
  • Strong commitment to equity, opportunity youth, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills.
  • Ability to build positive rapport and motivate disconnected youth.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage classroom planning, assessments, and reporting timelines.
  • Flexible, proactive, and solution-oriented in fast-paced, evolving program settings.
  • Master’s degree or NYS teacher certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with GED curriculum, TABE testing, and adult basic education instructional methods strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with DYCD-funded or similar youth programs is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages) preferred.
