About the role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Staff/ Project Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our expanding Air Quality Permitting and Compliance Team in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem solving, and outdoor field operations while supporting a variety of air quality, meteorological monitoring, and emissions testing projects across Alaska. As part of SLR’s collaborative environment, you’ll have frequent opportunities to engage with our Air Quality technical team, sharing best practices and expanding your consulting capabilities.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering (Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline), Instrumentation Technology, Electronics Technology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 0-5 years of experience in emissions testing, air quality and meteorological monitoring, environmental field services, industrial instrumentation, or related technical fields
  • Strong technical writing, proofreading, and reporting skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems (DAS), telemetry systems, and remote communications technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic electrical, electronic, mechanical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and operating procedures.
  • Experience or coursework involving CEMS, ambient air monitoring, source emissions testing, or meteorological monitoring.
  • Dangerous Goods shipping certification or experience (IATA, DOT).
  • Knowledge of air emissions calculations and environmental data analysis.
  • Familiarity with federal and state air quality regulations.
