About the role

The Assistant Director provides comprehensive academic advising, monitoring, and developmental support to student-athletes at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position works directly with high-profile varsity programs, serving as the primary academic counselor for Women’s Basketball and other Olympic or varsity sport programs (assigned based on department needs). The successful candidate will assist student-athletes in navigating academic progress, degree completion, career planning, and personal development while ensuring strict adherence to University of Maryland, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administrative structure and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of athletics policies and procedures and federal, state, and other applicable, related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize within unit and department environment as well manage large-scale athletics-related projects.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field.
  • Prior experience directly supporting high-visibility or high-demand Division I sports programs (e.g., Men's/Women's Basketball, Football).
  • Familiarity with student success software and campus systems (e.g., Navigate, Canvas, SIS/Testudo).
