About the role
You’ll lead a team of full-stack engineers while staying deep in the code yourself. Think player-coach: you’re shipping production features one day and unblocking an engineer’s architecture decision the next. You’ll own the delivery cadence, technical quality, and growth trajectory of your team while partnering closely with product, design, and our financial planning org to build the platform our members rely on. We ship fast, we ship often, and we expect our engineering leaders to understand every layer of what we’re building. This role is based at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA. Employees hired for this position will work in office Monday-Friday. If you are not currently located in this area, your willingness to relocate will be a contingency for employment.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience with at least 1–2 years leading a team.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar.
- Experience working with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Excellent product instincts.
- You first think about users rather than the best technical solution.
- Track record of building, shipping, and operating reliable production systems—you understand what it takes to build secure software at scale, not just pass a code review.
- Genuine interest in growing people.
- You give direct, actionable feedback and have helped engineers level up through mentorship or management.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to solve ambiguous problems without the need to be told exactly what to do.
- Ability to pick up on new technologies very quickly.
- Comfortable working across the stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure).
