About the role
The Senior Manager - Payroll will own payroll across international locations, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with local statutory requirements. This role sits within Nium's Finance function in Mumbai and partners closely with People, Legal, Tax,FP&A, Accounting, and external payroll providers. The ideal candidate brings strong multi-country payroll experience, excellent controls discipline, and a continuous improvement mindset to help Nium scale payroll operations globally. The Finance team supports Nium's global growth through strong financial governance, scalable processes, accurate reporting, and disciplined execution. Payroll works closely with Accounting, Tax,FP&A, Accounts Payable, People Operations, and regional teams to deliver a consistent employee and stakeholder experience across jurisdictions.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 8-12 years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 4 years in a senior payroll management or payroll leadership role.
- Proven experience managing multi-country payroll in a multinational, technology, payments, financial services, or fintech environment.
- Strong knowledge of Indian payroll legislation and statutory requirements, with exposure to at least one international jurisdiction such as the US, UK, Singapore, or Southeast Asia.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise payroll or HR systems
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting, month-end close, GL reconciliations, audit controls, and payroll-related reporting.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills for reconciliations, reporting, audit trails, and analysis.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced global environment.
- High degree of integrity, discretion, and judgment in handling confidential employee and compensation data.
- Experience with payroll system implementation, payroll process transformation, or M&A payroll integration.
- Experience with equity administration platforms such as Carta, or similar tools, including ESOP, RSU, or equity tax withholding processes.
- CPP, FPC, or equivalent payroll certification.
