About the role
Birch Creek Energy, a utility-scale solar development company with projects across the United States, is seeking a Technical Accounting Director in our St. This role is to serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on complex U.S. GAAP matters, including variable interest entity (VIE) consolidation, hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) accounting for tax equity partnerships, and technical accounting for acquisitions and project financings. This role reports to the Controller and partners closely with the Controller, CIO, FP&A team, tax, and external auditors to ensure the company's accounting positions are well-researched, well-documented, and audit-ready across a complex, multi-entity structure. This is a hybrid role based in St. Louis, MO, with an expectation of in-office collaboration 3-4 days per week with flexibility to work remotely.
What you'll bring
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience,
- Active CPA license required.
- Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated experience researching and documenting complex technical accounting positions (ASC 810, 606, 842, 323, 360, 740 and related areas).
- Experience working within a multi-entity or consolidated organizational structure
- comfort navigating complexity across a large number of legal entities.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical accounting conclusions into clear memos for auditors and leadership.
- Experience with renewable energy, tax equity structures, or project finance accounting (including HLBV) is preferred but not required.
- a foundation in public accounting, renewable energy industry, or technical accounting strongly preferred.
