About the role
This position is imperative in operating and maintaining all network systems and servers. This person is one of the members of a five (5) person team. Under the direction of the Information Technology (IT) Manager, the Systems Engineer will provide network design, systems administration, and maintenance for the Bay Area Express Lanes backhaul network infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will play a key role in taking the network to the next level through a number of projects including participation in network and systems architecture design, implementation and eventual maintenance of BAIFA’s next generation network communications infrastructure. Focus will be on enhancing systems and network capacity, redundancy, and high availability, implementation of network and application security best practices and technologies, adding traffic shaping (CoS/QoS) to allow for high bandwidth application while maintaining performance for critical applications, and upgrades of firewalls, routers, and switches. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will serve as a technical advisor for other agency ITS projects and networks.
What you'll bring
- Hands on experience with Cisco and Palo Alto Networks networking devices and Cisco IOS.
- Experience managing MPLS WAN environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Microsoft Active Directory architecture.
- Technical project management experience in 24x7 production environments.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following disciplines, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems Management, or a related discipline.
- Cisco CCNA certification.
- Microsoft MCSA certification.
- CCNP, CCNP Security, and CCDP certification.
- MCSE: Server Infrastructure certification.
- PMP certification.
- Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies.
- Working knowledge of Palo Alto Network Firewalls.
