About the role
onX is seeking an experienced Access & Stewardship Program Director to run and grow the company's A&S program. This person defines program priorities, drives annual planning, and oversees grants, stewardship initiatives, customer education, access-related geospatial and product integration projects, partnerships, and policy-informed programs. A defining part of this role is guiding how onX expands its political exposure: deliberately, in nonpartisan and credibility-building ways, and with clear-eyed judgment about risk. This person will surface trade-offs and risks early and provide clear recommendations so senior leadership can make deliberate, informed decisions.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in program management, advocacy, government relations, corporate social responsibility, nonprofit partnerships, conservation, or related fields.
- Direct experience in federal policy, advocacy, or government relations, including interaction with congressional offices, federal agencies, or policy partners.
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional programs or initiatives from strategy through execution, with responsibility for priorities, partners, and measurable outcomes.
- Experience working across nonprofit, public-sector, government affairs, or other mission-driven partnership environments.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders with and without direct authority and put enterprise outcomes ahead of their own lane.
- Strong strategic thinking, prioritization, and judgment, including the ability to surface trade-offs and make recommendations in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- A track record of taking ownership and moving work forward without waiting for perfect clarity or ideal conditions.
- Comfort operating as both strategist and doer, setting direction while executing hands-on with a small team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, tailored to senior leaders, external partners, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience using data, reporting, and qualitative insight to inform decisions, measure progress, and improve program outcomes.
- Experience leading or developing a direct report, with a leadership style grounded in maturity, accountability, and low ego.
