About the role
At Core & Main , we're looking for a skilled and motivated Lead Mechanic who takes pride in delivering high-quality HDPE piping solutions while providing exceptional service to our customers. In this hands-on role, you'll work with industry-leading equipment, perform specialized fusion operations in the field, respond to critical repair needs, and play a key role in ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of safety and quality.
What you'll bring
- Must be 21 years of age
- Demonstrated knowledge of polyethylene pipe fusion equipment, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and related components.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, including wiring, control circuits, sensors, switches, and electronic components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and manufacturer service documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely operate diagnostic tools and shop equipment.
- Valid Utah driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and components in accordance with company safety standards.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight as required to support field service operations, attend manufacturer training programs, and fulfill other job-related responsibilities.
- Ability to successfully complete required McElroy equipment training and maintain applicable certifications.
- Typically in an environment with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes, which may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
- Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, and maneuvering material or equipment, some of which may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.
