About the role
As a Junior Embedded Software Development Engineer , you’ll contribute to the software that runs on Sonos players to help deliver reliable playback and great experiences across our ecosystem. You’ll work closely with a supportive team of engineers who will help you learn Sonos systems, embedded development practices, and how we ship high-quality software. You’ll be exposed to foundational areas of the Sonos system such as music playback, device-to-device interaction, and partner services. You’ll grow your skills through hands-on development, debugging, and collaboration across disciplines like hardware, product management, and user experience. This role is for a position on the Partner Integration team. You’ll be working closely with our Music Service Partners (MSPs) to support over 120 integrations on Sonos. Familiarity with API design, SDK integration, and full stack software development will serve you well in this role. You will be adding new exciting features, improving existing integrations, and helping shape the future of partner integrations on Sonos. This is a hybrid position, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston office location and should expect to be in office a minimum of 3 days per week.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with C/C++ (coursework, internships, co-op, or professional experience).
- Exposure to C/C++ based embedded systems / firmware development (projects, internships, lab work, or early-career roles).
- Familiarity with embedded concepts such as memory constraints, concurrency, and real-time behaviors.
- Curiosity and strong learning aptitude: ability to ramp on unfamiliar systems and ask great questions.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Git, Perforce, etc.).
- Willingness to engage with our AI tools to help with your day to day workflow.
- Experience debugging on-device software (logs, tracing, performance investigation).
- Interest in audio, music, and consumer devices.
- Experience working in a team environment using code reviews and CI tooling.
